- Research out of John Hopkins University is conclusive. All students lose up to 2.6 months of learning (literacy and math) if they do not actively engage in summer learning activities.
- Summer reading loss is cumulative. By the end of 6th grade those students who lose reading skills during the summer months are on average 2 years behind their peers.

Option 1
Think Stretch! HCS has offered (for purchase) a grade specific summer workbook, parent guide and summer learning bag to support your child's practice of the skills (reading, writing, math and science) they have learned this year. Included are 8 weeks of reading logs, math practice, writing and bonus activities. Complete the log and activities in the workbook to receive your medal in the fall! Summer Library Programs Take advantage of our local summer library programs! See links on the reading resource page. Bring back evidence of your participation in a library program to earn a medal when you return to school in the fall! |
